Common questions
Nothing happens when I press my shortcut
This is nearly always Accessibility permission. macOS gives no warning when it is missing, and without it a global shortcut cannot reach Shrtcut at all. Open Settings from the menu bar icon — a banner appears whenever the permission is off, with a button that adds Shrtcut to the list for you. You can also grant it manually in System Settings › Privacy & Security › Accessibility.
If Shrtcut is already listed but still does nothing, remove it from that list with the − button, then add it again. macOS ties the grant to a specific copy of the app, so moving or replacing the app can leave a stale entry behind.
The window arc never appears
The arc lists the open windows of the highlighted app, and reading another app's window list also needs Accessibility permission. Without it every app looks like it has a single window, so the arc stays hidden. It also only appears when there is a genuine choice to make — an app with one window has nothing to choose between.
Shrtcut has no Dock icon
That is deliberate. Shrtcut lives in the menu bar; closing a window does not quit it. Everything is reachable from the menu bar icon.
My shortcut fires while I am typing
Bind a combination that includes ⌘, ⌥ or ⌃. Shift on its own is not enough to keep a shortcut out of ordinary typing, and the recorder will warn you about it.
The shortcut is already used by something else
The recorder flags a clash with macOS's own shortcuts and with Shrtcut's other rings. If macOS claims a combination, it may never reach Shrtcut — pick another.
How do I start the walkthrough again?
Choose Welcome to Shrtcut… from the menu bar icon.
